Orlando Plastic Surgeon Dr. George Pope Shares Recent ASPS Findings for 2011.
Orlando, FL – The newest indicators released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that plastic surgery procedures increased in 2011, up almost six percent from 2010.
The newly released numbers point to signs of a recovering economy, one that was severely battered in late 2008 and 2009, when plastic surgeries were at their absolute lowest since 2005’s peak in the industry, when surgical procedures topped 2.1 million.
According to the findings, Americans received 1.6 million cosmetic surgeries in 2011. This included nose jobs (rhinoplasty), facelifts, and, the number one procedure, breast augmentations, with 307,000 total surgeries performed by board-certified plastic surgeons. Eyelid surgery and liposuction were also some of the highest-ranking surgeries for 2011.
Dr. George Pope, ASPS member and board-certified plastic surgeon at Orlando Plastic Surgery Center, wasn’t surprised by the findings.
“2010 began the recovery, 2011 solidified it,” said Dr. Pope. “We saw an increase in all major surgeries mentioned in the reports at our practice in 2011.”
However, there was one surgical procedure in particular that didn’t make the ASPS short list, and according to Dr. Pope, is increasing in popularity across the country.
“We saw a large amount of men coming into our practice for gynecomastia surgery—more than previous years,” said Dr. George Pope. “This surgery is getting more popular because of the life-changing social and psychological effects it has on men.”
Gynecomastia surgery corrects excessive breast tissue in men. “These men have tried everything before coming into our offices—dieting, exercise, you name it… Gynecomastia surgery in Orlando is often their only alternative.”
The report noted another surgery that was up in men—chin augmentation, up 71 percent since 2012.
Surgical procedures weren’t the only increases in 2011. Non-surgical procedures also reached new highs this past year. “People want to look and feel their best, especially when it comes to how they are viewed at their workplace,” said Dr. Pope. “Many of our patients opt for non-surgical procedures as a ‘quick-fix’ and an upper hand in this competitive job market.”
Approximately 12.2 million non-surgical procedures were performed in 2011, including:
• Botox (and similar) injections (5.7 million)
• Soft tissue fillers (1.9 million)
• Chemical peels (1.1 million)
• Laser hair removal (1.1 million)
• Microdermabrasion (900,000)
“Of course Botox is one of our most popular injectables, but Sculptra is also an injectable that we are seeing more requests for, and for good reason,” said Dr. Pope. “Sculptra is a facial injectable that replaces lost collagen, helping to fill in concave areas of the face and improve facial contours—our patients love the results. We recently had a seminar at the office that explained all of Sculptra’s benefits, and guests were able to see the entire procedure first hand in a live demonstration.”
According to the manufacturer, the results of Sculptra can last up to two years (compared to 4 months to other popular injectables like Botox). The results are gradual and they appear over time, in a more natural progression than other injectables.
Dr. Pope said that it is encouraging to see two consecutive years of steady growth for the plastic surgery industry. All point to an economy that is slowly, but surely, headed for recovery.
Most important during this time of increased surgery options, notes Dr. Pope, is selecting the right plastic surgeon. “Ask plenty of questions—a good surgeon will answer every single one—and make sure to see plenty of before and after photos. Most importantly, make sure that you are consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon in Orlando,” said Dr. Pope.

Flippers Pizzeria Now Offering Free Wireless Internet Access in Corporate Stores.
December 21, 2011 — Orlando, FL — Orlando pizza favorite Flippers Pizzeria now offers free wireless Internet access at all corporate locations.
The WiFi upgrade finishes out a full year of environmental in-store updates, which also included the installation of high-definition flat-screen televisions in all eleven Central Florida restaurants.
“We really care about the comfort of our customers when they dine here,” said a Flippers marketing executive. “In addition to the great customer service from our serving staff, we have created an environment that features all the comforts of home—and now with our free WiFi, the office, too.”
Free WiFi is only the beginning of a variety of advancements that the company plans to roll out in 2012, which happens to be its 25th year in Central Florida. In late January, the pizzeria will launch a mobile-compatible website, as well as an iPhone application that will allow customers to order pizzas, flatbreads, salads, sandwiches, and more through their iPad or iPhone device. Both of these items are fast approaching beta testing.
2012 will mark the Orlando pizza restaurant’s 25th anniversary. “We are very proud to have been part of the Central Florida community for more than twenty-five years, and we look forward to celebrating our milestone 25th year in 2012,” said a Flippers representative. “New menu items will be released, along with our new mobile applications, and we even have plans for new locations to be opening up during the year.”
Another exciting thing rolling out next year will be an online ordering system for catering. The company is currently integrating a newly updated catering menu into their existing online ordering system, making it more convenient to plan a catered event in just a few clicks.
“In addition to always ensuring consistent, high-quality, great-tasting food, making sure that our customers are satisfied with their experience inside our restaurants is equally as important to us,” said a member of the Flippers Pizzeria team. “The recent WiFi renovation finished out a year that we are very proud of, and we look forward to the new advancements and improvements that 2012 will bring for the Flippers brand.”
Since 1987, Flippers Pizzeria has been serving Central Florida’s tourists, residents, students, and businesses the perfect pizza while making numerous charitable donations to the local community. Today, there are eleven Flippers Pizzeria restaurants in Central Florida, with pizza franchise opportunities available for interested and qualified investors.
Flippers Pizzeria was recently ranked “Number 1” on MyFoxOrlando’s Mojo Pages for “Best Pizza in Orlando.” Earlier this year, the Orlando pizza franchise began to offer t-shirts for fans of the pizza restaurant to show their support for the brand. The shirts are now available at all locations.

Orlando Plastic Surgery Center “Spotlight on Sculptra” Event a Success.
(Orlando, FL) – Orlando Plastic Surgery Center was home to a packed house on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, as staff and guest speakers educated interested attendees about Sculptra Aesthetic, Revision Skincare, and Vi Peel.
Upon arriving, guests checked in and were treated to light appetizers and wine, as well as a gift bag full of Revision Skincare’s most popular products.
The night began with presentations by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. George Pope and Sculptra product representative, Amanda Mills.
The presentation highlighted the benefits of Sculptra and how the product works. Following the presentation, guests were able to ask questions about Sculptra.
Guests were then introduced to Revision Skincare’s line of skincare products, which are all currently available at the Orlando cosmetic surgery practice. They were able to sample some of the company’s most popular products, which included Nectifirm, a product that tightens sagging skin on the neck and décolletage, and Intellishade tinted moisturizer, an anti-aging cream with UVA/UVB protection.
Later, they were witness to a live demonstration of Sculptra in the on-site plastic surgery surgical suite.
Two patients were administered Sculptra; one by Dr. Pope and another by Linda Gilliland, ARNP, PhD. Following the demonstration, guests were also able to watch a patient receive the popular Vi Peel, a gentle, yet highly effective facial peel that stimulates the production of collagen, eliminates acne scars, and softens fine lines and wrinkles. ??Door prizes were awarded at the end of the seminar.
“We really enjoy getting together with our patients and educating them on procedures, innovations, and news about plastic surgery,” said Dr. Pope. “They trust our expertise and opinions, and we take that very seriously as cosmetic and plastic surgery professionals.”
Sculptra is a facial injectable that replaces lost collagen, helping to fill in concave areas of the face and improve facial contours.
“Typically, we administer Sculptra in a series of treatments separated by four to six weeks,” said Dr. Pope. “The amount of treatments varies for each patient, but usually three to four treatments are sufficient for many of our patients to see quality results.”
According to the manufacturer, the results of Sculptra can last up to two years (compared to 4 months to other popular injectables like Botox). The results are gradual and they appear over time, in a more natural progression than other injectables.
The popularity of facial injectables and fillers has dramatically increased over the years. The minimally invasive nature of the procedure makes it highly desirable and its affordability and accessibility has increased its prevalence.
In 2010, Botulinum Toxin Type A injections ( Botox Orlando and Dysport ) increased 12% from 2009 and fat tissue fillers rose 14% (American Society of Plastic Surgeons). In total, there were around 11.6 million minimally invasive procedures in 2010, which is an overall 5% increase from 2009.
