Preston’s stunning start to the season continued on Sunday as a 1-0 win at Charlton moved the Lilywhites to the top of the Championship.
Alex Neil reiterated his commitment to the Lancashire side prior to the clash at the Valley following speculation linking him with the vacant manager’s job at Stoke following Nathan Jones’ dismissal.
And his side responded with a professional display in south London, with Paul Gallagher’s second-half penalty – which was duly despatched with aplomb – enough to secure all three points.
It’s the first time since 2006 that Preston have been top of the rankings in the second tier, when they were then managed by Billy Davies.
