Dele Alli continues to be a source of some comfort for Tottenham – whenever he gets himself on the scoresheet.

The 23-year-old was on target for Mauricio Pochettino’s men in a 1-1 draw at Everton on Sunday.

Prior to that encounter Spurs hadn’t lose any of their previous 38 Premier League games that Alli had scored in – equating to 31 wins and seven draws.

And that sequence now stands at 39 after Alli netted his second goal in his last three league games as both sides cancelled themselves out in the Merseyside draw.

The former MK Dons starlet has come in for some strong criticism after a drop in form, and speaking to Sky Sports after the game had some choice words for his doubters.

“When certain people say something, it really hurts, when other people say things it’s in one ear and out of the other,” he said.

“But coming from League One to the Premier League, you have to have a strong mentality and I’ll keep showing that.”

Alli maintained he has performed better than some people have suggested this season, and says he wants to reach a whole new level of consistency and quality.

“I didn’t have a great season last season, I had injuries, but I’ll put that behind me,” he added.

“I didn’t play well against Liverpool but in other games I have. I don’t want to get back to where I was, I want to surpass that.

“Some people say things not to help, just to say it for the sake of it. My manager, team-mates and family, I’ll keep listening to them.”

The game was marred by a horrendous injury to Andre Gomes, with the Portuguese midfielder stretchered off following an accidental collision with Heung-min Son in the second half.
