There’s no getting away from the fact that it’s been a difficult year for Jesse Lingard.
The Manchester United midfielder has struggled for form during which has been a very challenging period in the club’s history.
Perhaps most damningly, the 26-year-old hasn’t produced a single goal or assist in the Premier League since last December.
In fact, the only time he’s scored in this calendar year was all the way back in January in a 3-1 win at Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round.
But the most damning statistic of all is that Lingard has failed to register a single shot on target in his eight Premier League appearances to date.
The fact he’s only mustered four shots in the league this season underlines the drop in confidence he has suffered.

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster, who made a string of stunning saves in a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea on Saturday, has now, incredibly, recorded more shots on goal than Lingard – yes, you did read that right.
That effort came in the dying embers of the clash at Vicarage Road, with Foster getting his head on the end of a late set-piece but his opposite number, Kepa Arrizabalaga, pulled off a stunning stop to deny him.
Foster would have joined an illustrious list had he found the net, with only five goalkeepers to have ever scored in the Premier League – Peter Schmeichel, Brad Friedel, Paul Robinson, Tim Howard and Asmir Begovic.
