Chelsea vs Ajax team news and predicted line-ups:Will N’Golo Kante start Champions League clash?

5 Nov

Chelsea have received a massive boost ahead of their Champions League match against Ajax with N’Golo Kante returning from injury.

The Frenchman has only featured five times for the Blues this season, missing the last five games due to a persistent groin problem.

Frank Lampard’s men haven’t struggled in his absence, though, winning every league match and also beating Tuesday’s opponents 1-0 in their own back yard two weeks ago.

However, given the amount of football played by Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount, Kante provides some much-needed fresh legs for the Blues.

“We’ve been able to get some work into him, he’s in the squad and he’s available,” said Lampard.

The Blues can take an almighty leap towards the knockout stages with victory over Ajax at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

They are currently level on points with the Dutch club, but sit top of Group H thanks to their head-to-head record.

Elsewhere, the Blues are still without defender Antonio Rudiger, who has been out for the majority of the season with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Ruben Loftus-Cheek continues his recovery from a long-term Achilles problem suffered last season.

Here’s how talkSPORT.com expects Chelsea to line up for their Champions League blockbuster.

In our predicted XI, Kante comes in for Kovacic, who ran himself ragged during the 2-1 victory over Watford.

We reckon Marcos Alonso will start at left-back to replace Emerson Palmieri, who has only recently returned from injury.

Lampard will find it difficult to drop Christian Pulisic following four goals in his last two Premier League games, although he might be tempted to rest the American and play Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Similarly, Tammy Abraham has started almost every game for Chelsea this season, and Michy Batshuayi has shown good form when called upon.

For the visitors, midfielder Edson Alvarez could return after missing the most recent two games through injury.

However, that would probably push David Neres or Quincy Promes out of the starting line-up, both of whom netted twice in the 4-2 victory at Zwolle on Friday.
