Former Everton, Newcastle and West Ham boss Sam Allardyce tells talkSPORT he is NOT interested in Stoke City job

Sam Allardyce will not be putting himself forward for the Stoke City job.

The Potters are on the lookout for their fifth manager in three years, having axed Nathan Jones last week following the club’s disastrous start to the Championship season.

Stoke won just six times in 38 games under Jones

Stoke are likely to be seeking for an experienced head to turn their fortunes around, with Monday’s defeat to West Brom leaving them six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table and in real danger of a second relegation in three seasons.

Inevitably, Allardyce has been one of the names linked with the post, given his near 30-year experience in management and his reputation for steadying the ship across numerous levels of the game.

But the former England boss told talkSPORT on Tuesday he has no interest in taking on the challenge at the bet365 Stadium – if indeed approached.

Asked by Alan Brazil if he would fancy the job, he replied “No… I’m coming down here and enjoying myself too much with you!”

Whoever does takes over Stoke must be fully trusted and backed by the board if they are to turn things around, according to Allardyce.

The 65-year-old, who has managed numerous clubs at the highest level, said: “There are a lot of assessments to be made and recommendations to the board on how you are going to change it and the board need to listen to the man they have just employed on how to do those recommendations to save Stoke.”
