Andy Ruiz Jr’s nutritionist reveals crucial diet change ahead of Anthony Joshua rematch which has led to dramatic weight loss

Andy Ruiz Jr wants to move ‘easier on his feet’ for his rematch Anthony Joshua and has cut out the Snickers according to his nutritionist.

The Mexican-American stunned fans in June when, despite appearing to be rather out of shape, he stopped Joshua in the seventh round of their Madison Square Garden masterpiece.

Social media has been alight with pictures of Ruiz and his slender physique ahead of the Saudi Arabia sequel, with the 29-year-old vowing to be even more emphatic.

“Andy’s weight is coming down,” his personal nutritionist and chef Zo’s Meal Plans told Sky Sports. “He’s working really hard in the gym which is a factor.

“His diet? Fish, salmon, pasta on sparring days. Once in a while we have had a cheat day but nothing too crazy, man.

“The goal is to keep him eating clean, keep him eating healthily.

“Feeling light is what we’re going for. We want to keep him light.

“We’re not targeting a specific weight – maybe the same weight or a little bit less. But we want to feel light so it’s easier for him to move on his feet.”

Meanwhile, it seems as though Joshua is sparring with Timothy Moten as part of his preparations as he enters the bout as the challenger.

Although it has not been officially confirmed, the 5-0 (2 KOs) American has uploaded multiple clips of himself training at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, where AJ bases himself with coach Rob McCracken.

Breakfast

We wake up and have an omelette with mushroom and spinach and avocado. I switch up the meats. Sometimes he asks for hash browns too.

Lunch

Andy likes to keep lunch lighter because he trains later in the day. He will have a chicken salad or a chicken wrap.

Dinner

Pasta or rice. We just left Saudi Arabia and Andy tried some rice there. He loved it, and now I have to try and replicate that rice! He likes the food in Saudi Arabia.

Snacks

We have three full meals and snacks in between. He might snack on a wrap or a sandwich, something that he travel with. Andy has a lot of nuts and fruit too.

Meal of Choice

Steaks. He loves to eat steaks, man. Whenever we can fit in a steak, we do. We try to keep the steak leaner and I try to give him more chicken or fish, if I can.

His social media activity indicates that he has indeed been sharing the ring with the former unified heavyweight champion.

It is evident why Moten would be chosen to spar AJ, as his short, stocky style matches that of Ruiz Jr.

The 27-year-old has been working with coach Angel Fernandez, who Spanish media claim has also been drafted in to help the Brit exact revenge on December 7 in Saudi Arabia.

Moten, who left Sheffield for a brief period over the weekend to visit London as a tourist, said: “We will go straight back to camp and then it’s back in the dead zone.


“We were told they might send us back here again for another one, depending on how we perform for camp.

If we do good, we’ll be back here.”
