Champions League results: Heung-min Son stars for Tottenham in 4-0 thrashing of Red Star Belgrade, ten men Manchester City held by Atalanta

Heung-min Son scored a second half double for Tottenham as they got a much needed win in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade.

Giovano Lo Celso also scored on his full debut for Spurs as they came away with a 3-0 victory.

However, Lo Celso was on hand in the six-yard box to knock in the rebound to mark his first start with a goal.

Spurs were lucky not to be level on the stroke of half-time.

Former Huddersfield winger Rajiv Van La Parra burst into the penalty but his effort was saved onto the post by Paulo Gazzaniga and back into play.

However, a recovering Davinson Sanchez inadvertently hit the ball back towards his own goal and off the crossbar before Pochettino’s side finally cleared the danger.

Spurs hit Red Star on break in the 57th minute to double their advantage in Belgrade.

Tanguy Ndombele burst through midfield before finding Dele Alli on the edge of the area, who was composed enough to slot in Son to lash home into the top corner.

Spurs made it 3-0 just four minutes later with Son tapping in at the far post.

A neat pass sent Rose free on the left-hand side of the penalty before drilling a cross to the South Korea to slot home his second goal of the evening.

Manchester City held on for a point against Atalanta despite being reduced to ten men with Kyle Walker ending up in goal.

City wasted no time in taking the lead at Atalanta’s adopted Champions League home of the San Siro.

Bernardo Silva threaded a through ball to Jesus in the penalty area, who instantly flicked inside to Sterling to slot into the bottom corner first time after just seven minutes.

Guardiola’s side had a great chance to double their advantage in Milan.

Sterling saw his free-kick strike the hand of Josip Ilicic in the wall, which referee Aleksei Kulbakov dismissed.

But VAR stepped in and, after reviewing the decision on the monitor, gave the spot-kick to visitors, but Gabriel Jesus dragged his tame penalty wide.

City suffered a blow ahead of their Premier League crunch with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday as Ederson was replaced by Claudio Bravo at half-time.

And Atalanta were level four minutes after the restart. Alejandro Gomez pulled Nicolas Otamendi out of position before swinging a superb cross into the penalty area for on-loan Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic to head home.

Ilicic latched onto a through ball and beyond the visiting defence before Bravo raced outside the area.

The forward fell under a challenge from the goalkeeper, with Kulbakov brandishing the red card.

Bravo was adamant Ilicic dived and replays suggested the forward left his foot in order to make contact before VAR decided to make the decision stand.

After a lengthy delay, Kyle Walker came on for Mahrez wearing Bravo’s shirt and managed to keep out Ruslan Malinovsky’s resultant free-kick.
