Arsenal have been dealt a fresh blow with defender William Saliba suffering a serious injury in action for Saint Etienne.
The promising youngster was signed for £27m from the French club in July, but was loaned straight back to Les Verts for the 2019/20 campaign.
And manager Claude Puel confirmed to the club’s official website that the teenager broke his fifth metatarsal against Monaco at the weekend.
Saliba had only been back to full fitness for five weeks, having had to undergo an operation on an abductor muscle injury.

It will come as a bitter blow to both clubs as he was the standout performer for the Ligue 1 side this campaign and his impressive progress will now be scuppered by the injury.
The news of the injury comes off the back of yet another disappointing night for Unai Emery’s men.
Shkodran Mustafi’s header looked to have secured an under-par Arsenal three points against Portuguese side Vitoria in the Europa League, but Bruno Duarte’s overhead kick saw the game end 1-1 and ensured Arsenal have let the lead slip in their last four matches in all competitions.
To add to the Gunners’ woes, Dani Ceballos had to be substituted early in the second half after picking up a niggle.
The Spaniard, on loan from Real Madrid, will now likely miss the tricky trip to Leicester on Sunday.
