Eddie Hearn received a lot of criticism when he decided to turn KSI and Logan Paul professional and promote their fight.
Many fans thought it was insulting to the sport, but Hearn saw around 40 million of their subscribers as a new audience for him, and a profitable one at that.
KSI ended up defeating Logan Paul in a relatively exciting six-round clash. It wasn’t one for boxing purists, but it was a fight indeed.
Paul was clearly the more polished boxer, but holding the back of KSI’s head on an uppercut knockdown ultimately cost him the fight after he had two points deducted.
Speaking after the fight to Sky Sports, Hearn said they had stole the show from actual world champions Devin Haney and Billy Joe Saunders.
“The crazy thing about this sport is, we wanted to bring in professional boxing with this circus, if you like. We wanted to showcase to this audience what’s great about the sport, and those guys – KIS and Logan Paul – ended up showcasing it.
“The Devin Haney fight was great. Billy Joe Saunders came back from behind to win by knockout, but that fight [KSI and Paul] was everything that’s great about boxing, and we ended up seeing that from two YouTubers,” Hearn stated.
“Everyone gave them stick from the boxing community, but now you have to give them respect. I thought it was absolutely brilliant.”
