West Ham’s owners must sack Manuel Pellegrini and try to bring in Jose Mourinho if they are serious about taking the club to the next level, according to Adrian Durham.
Pellegrini’s future at the London Stadium is now in serious doubt after another dreadful result at the weekend.
A 3-0 defeat at Burnley was their fifth loss in their last six games in all competitions and also their seventh game without a win.
It’s a terrible run of results that has seen the Hammers go from top-six contenders to the verge of a relegation battle – they now sit 16th, just five points above the bottom three.
The Chilean now finds himself under huge pressure and calls for the club to wield the axe are becoming louder.
Durham believes West Ham should get it over and done with and do everything in their power to bring Mourinho at east London.
And, if that fails, he believes another Premier League boss will be perfectly suited to the job.
Speaking on Monday’s Drivetime, the talkSPORT host said: “It all depends on how serious the West Ham board are.
“If they are serious, they will try to get Mourinho.
“If that fails they try to lure Nuno Espirito Santo away from Wolves.
“That’s the level West Ham should be looking at right now.”
However, Jason Cundy had a different suggestion for the Hammers.
The former Chelsea defender was in the studio alongside Durham on Monday’s Drivetime.
And he believes Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe would succeed with the greater resources at his disposal at the London Stadium.
“I think they need to go with someone younger, who is reflecting the style of football you want to play,” Cundy said.
“Eddie Howe’s name always seems to get linked with other jobs, but I think that’s the type of manager West Ham need to look at.
“For someone who has the squad of players he’s got [at Bournemouth], I can see Eddie Howe going into West Ham and doing a much better job.”
