England will bring up 1000 games in their history when they take to the Wembley pitch on Thursday.
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions take on Montenegro as they look to secure a place in next summer’s Euro 2020 tournament.
While it’s an important night on the pitch, it’ll also be a celebratory one off it as the 1966 World Cup winners bring up international fixture number 1000.
But what about the previous 999 and what are the stats and facts about England’s long history in the game.
England 1000 games: Favourite opponent
No team has been more profitable for England than their opponents across the border in Wales having beaten them 67 times.
The Three Lions have also enjoyed success against the likes of Finland and Turkey while big guns Belgium are also a favoured foe.
England 1000 games: Record against the best
Of FIFA’s current 20 top ranked teams, England boast the best record against Mexico while the Three Lions also enjoy clashes with Peru and Switzerland.
Five-time World Cup champions Brazil have proven the toughest test for England while Sweden and Chile have also proved to be a tough nut to crack.
As for old adversaries Germany, they record is split down the middle with eight wins each.
England 1000 games: Goals, Goals, Goals
England clearly just love facing the Republic of Ireland, slotting home a whopping 3.92 goals per game. England’s biggest ever win came against the Irish way back in 1882 when they claimed a 13-0 victory in Belfast.
The Three Lions have also enjoyed goal-fests against the USA, Austria and, perhaps surprisingly, France.
