Cristiano Ronaldo could become just the second man in history to score a century of international goals when Portugal play on Sunday.
Ronaldo bagged his ninth hat-trick for Portugal in their Euro 2020 qualifying win over Lithuania on Thursday night, taking his all-time goal tally for his country to an incredible 98.
The 34-year-old Juventus superstar could now bring up 100 goals with a brace against minnows Luxembourg.
That would see Ronaldo become only the second man to ever score a ton on the international stage.
Iran’s Ali Daei scored 109 goals in 149 caps during his career before retiring in 2006.
LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS
Ronaldo, who helped Portugal to win the 2016 Euros and last summer’s Nations League, has 98 from 163 appearances.
Portugal are yet to confirm their place at Euro 2020 and will need to match or better Serbia’s result against Ukraine on Sunday.
Top all-time international goal scorers
Ali Daei, Iran: 109 goals in 149 caps
Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal: 98 goals in 163 caps
Ferenc Puskas, Hungary: 84 goals in 85 caps
Kunishige Kamamoto, Japan: 80 goals in 84 caps
Godfrey Chitalu, Zambia: 79 goals in 111 caps
Hussein Saeed, Iraq: 78 goals in 137 caps
Pele, Brazil: 77 goals in 92 caps
But that should be straight-forward for Ronaldo and co as they face a Luxembourg side who have only taken one point in Group B.
Regardless, CR7 will likely start given what is at stake and he’ll be eager to fill his boots and bring up his century of goals.
