Roy Keane has warned Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi his days in the England squad may be numbered unless he improves his performances in a Three Lions shirt.
The Manchester United legend criticised the 19-year-old after his poor display in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Kosovo.
Hudson-Odoi started the game on the left of England’s front-three, but he failed to impress and was replaced on 59 minutes with Marcus Rashford, who later got his name on the scoresheet.
Keane was a pundit in the ITV Studio for the match, and at half-time he said the Chelsea youngster has failed to make the most of his three senior caps.
“Hudson-Odoi hasn’t taken his chance yet,” said the former Republic of Ireland midfielder.
“He isn’t stretching the defence. He has given the ball away too cheaply.
“He needs to step his game up in the second-half.”
Keane’s fellow pundit, former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon agreed and admitted time is running out for Hudson-Odoi to prove himself in Southgate’s side.
England’s wins over Montenegro and Kosovo this week have seen them qualify for Euro 2020 next summer, so there are now only a few opportunities for the Blues ace to impress.
Meanwhile, the teen is struggling for game time at Stamford Bridge, too, having played second fiddle to in-form American Christian Pulisic in recent weeks.
Dixon said: “There are only two games left before the squad is announced.
“He needs to just run at his full-back. He has to attack more rather than playing the ball inside.”
