Mason Greenwood came off the bench to score for England Under-21s but a sensational late free-kick gave the Netherlands Under-21s the win.
Aidy Boothroyd’s side were beaten 2-1 in the friendly with Kaj Sierhuis and Javairo Dilrosun scoring either side of Greenwood’s second half goal.
The Netherlands took the lead 23 minutes into the first half when Sierhuis bundled the ball over the line from close range.
The home side were dominant for much of the opening 45 minutes and were good for their 1-0 lead at the break.
England came out firing at the start of the second half and put their opponents under some serious pressure.

Rhian Brewster should have been awarded a penalty midway through when he was brought down in the box but the referee waved away his appeals.
The equalising goal came from Manchester United forward Greenwood when he capitalised on a defensive error in the 75th minute.
The Netherlands won through a sensational winner when Javairo Dilrosun’s free-kick went into the top corner and dipped over the outstretched arm of Aaron Ramsdale.
