Scott McTominay is already world class and he’s going to be as influential for Manchester United as Roy Keane – Incredible talkSPORT call

Is Scott McTominay the next Roy Keane? Well, one Manchester United fan seems to think so…

Drivetime hosts Andy Goldstein and Matt Holland were dumbfounded when Pete the Red Devils supporter phoned talkSPORT to claim midfielder McTominay is already world class – and that he’ll be as influential to United as the legendary Roy Keane!

Goldstein, himself a Man United fan, had no opposition to the fact McTominay, 22, is a good player, but he could not contain his laughter when Pete called the promising youngster ‘world class’.

And when Pete tried to explain his comments by using McTominay’s passion and commitment to the cause, Goldstein decided he was world class – a ‘world class cheerleader!’

“McTominay is going to be a future captain,” Pete began after calling talkSPORT, “and he is world class. He gives his all.

“I think McTominay has the ability to be as influential in our midfield and captain role as Roy Keane was during the 1990s and 2000s.

“The way he has played for the last two months are the most excited I have been about a homegrown, young midfielder. The passion he shows in his celebrations, when I am watching as a fan, that is what is dying in football.

“What matters to fans is seeing your players on the pitch giving their all. What goes a long way is seeing someone give their all to the club, and McTominay has got that – which you can’t teach.”

Lancashire-born McTominay has already played more than 50 times for the Red Devils since debuting under Jose Mourinho, and he’s become a key player for managerial successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite enduring a slow start when the former United striker was handed the reins.

This season the midfielder has chipped in with three goals in 12 appearances as he continues to develop and improve his all-round game, and he has earned many plaudits for a handful of excellent showings.

But world class? Only Pete is rating McTominay that highly right now…
