On Tax Day yesterday, Americans in battleground states saw a consistent theme in their local headlines – Republicans want to raise taxes. Republicans’ plan could raise taxes on more than half of the country – including seniors, service members, and many working Americans.
Here’s a look at what they’re reading about Republicans’ tax plan in battleground states:
“Rubio and Scott represent more seniors than almost any other U.S. Senator. But instead of backing plans to deal with the real problems retirees are facing — from high healthcare costs to rising rent to fraud schemes targeting seniors — they’re leaving us behind.”
“On Tax Day this year, I can’t help but wonder why Republicans are calling inflation a ‘gold mine,’ voting against legislation to bring down insulin prices, and proposing tax plans to raise taxes on nearly 40 percent of North Carolinians.”
“In a recent appearance on Breitbart News, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson described a legislative plan drafted by the Senate Republican tasked with winning back the upper chamber, Senator Rick Scott (FL-R), as ‘a positive thing’ and acknowledged he agreed with ‘most of’ Scott’s 11 point plan. A positive thing? Let’s break it down: Scott’s 11 point plan to Rescue America would… Increase taxes by more than $1 trillion dollars over ten years on ‘more than half of Americans,’ raising taxes on 32% of Wisconsinites.”
In the states this week, the DNC launched a digital ad buy ahead of Tax Day on Monday in key battlegrounds targeted to Google searches for tax services. The ads are reminding voters in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada of Republicans’ plan that could raise taxes on half of Americans. On top of these ads, Democrats in states across the country are united in spreading the word about Republicans’ plan to raise taxes.
President Biden, Vice President Harris, and members of the Cabinet also hit the road this week to kick off their Rural Infrastructure Tour, announcing new steps to address the pain people are feeling at the pump as a result of Putin’s Price Hike and highlighting how the Biden administration is working to lower costs and build a better America.
Across the country, President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan continues to help states expand affordable housing and help families make rent…
“A spokeswoman for the New Hampshire Democratic Party said Sununu is trying to claim as his own the work of the all-Democratic congressional delegation that got the ARPA money. ‘Sununu said he would have voted ‘no’ on the American Rescue Plan, but that hasn’t stopped him from taking credit for this funding,’ Monica Venzke said. ‘No matter how he tries to spin this to the press today, one thing is clear — Sununu has failed to alleviate New Hampshire’s housing crisis, and Granite Staters are paying the price,’ she said.”
In case you missed it, ahead of Tax Day on Monday, April 18, the DNC is launching a digital ad buy in key states targeted to Google searches for tax services. The ads will remind voters in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada of Senate Republicans’ plan that could raise taxes on half of Americans. The ads will also link to GOPtaxhike.com – a handy website that breaks down who could pay more under NRSC Chair Rick Scott and Republicans’ tax plan.
See some coverage of the ads nationally and in the states where they’re airing:
“The Democratic National Committee is launching digital ads in eight key battleground states highlighting a GOP tax plan that they say ‘could raise taxes on half of Americans,’ in a bid to sway voters ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.”
“Scott has argued that Democrats are mischaracterizing his plan. But it clearly states: ‘All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even if a small amount. Currently over half of Americans pay no income tax.’”
“The ads, which will run in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada, will put a spotlight on a tax plan released earlier this year by Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., which could result in raising taxes for over half of Americans.”
“The Democratic National Committee has launched a new digital ad targeting Republican Sen. Rick Scot’s plan to raise taxes on lower-income Americans. The ad will reportedly target voters in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada — states that will hold key U.S. contests this year.”
“The campaign will be directed, the DNC notes, to last-minute tax filers, with ads targeting people searching for tax preparation services. Digital ads will direct taxpayers to a website: GOPtaxhike.com. ‘Floridians deserve to know what the Republican tax plan would mean for them — and for more than 40% of Floridians, it could mean higher taxes,’ DNC spokesperson Rhyan Lake said. ‘While Democrats are working to lower costs and make your hard-earned money go further, there’s a good chance you could be paying higher taxes if Republicans get their way.’”
“Democrats say Scott’s plan, which they link to all Republicans, could raise taxes for more than ‘half of all seniors, 73% of couples making less than $90k a year and filing jointly, two-thirds of people making less than $40k a year, and more.’”
“Democrats say they want voters to understand that working Arizonans — including child care workers, farm workers and even first responders — could see a tax hike under Scott’s proposal, as could the elderly. The middle class also faces higher taxes, the DNC said in a press release Wednesday: More than 70% of couples making less than $90,000 a year who file jointly would be affected.”
“…the Democratic National Committee will target Scott next week with a digital advertising buy in Pennsylvania, a spokesperson told the Capital-Star. The buy is timed to coincide with tax day on April 18. People who search for tax services will be directed to a website criticizing a Scott-penned policy agenda that would raise taxes for a third of Pennsylvania residents.”
“Tax Day is upon us on Monday. And the Democratic National Committee is launching a digital ad buy in Georgia targeting people Googling tax services. The DNC ads take aim at Florida’s U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, who has released an 11-part plan that Democrats say would impose income taxes on roughly half of Americans who pay none now.”
From front pages to the evening news, Iowans are seeing coverage of President Biden’s trip to Menlo yesterday to announce new steps to address the pain people are feeling at the pump as a result of Putin’s Price Hike by increasing fuel supplies and investing in rural communities with the expected authorization to sell higher-ethanol gas across the country this summer.
Today, President Biden travels to Menlo, Iowa to discuss the Biden-Harris administration’s actions to lower costs for working families, reduce the impact of Putin’s Price Hike, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s investments in rural communities.
Ahead of the visit, Iowa Starting Line outlined the many ways President Biden has delivered for Iowans through the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – two landmark laws that were opposed by Gov. Kim Reynolds and most Iowa Republicans.
President Joe Biden is set to visit Menlo, a Guthrie County town about 45 minutes west of Des Moines, to tout his infrastructure investments in rural Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register.
Since entering office, the Biden Administration has placed a large emphasis on helping the country recover from the coronavirus pandemic and rebuilding America’s crumbling infrastructure.
Two pieces of legislation Biden signed into law to address those issues are the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and the bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Act. ARPA provided nearly $4.5 billion in funds to the state of Iowa while cities and counties also received hundreds of millions. The infrastructure bill will bring about $5 billion to Iowa.

Here are some of the ways the Biden administration has helped Iowans:
This morning, Americans across the country woke up to front pages featuring Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic confirmation to the Supreme Court by a bipartisan U.S. Senate vote, highlighting how President Joe Biden is following through on his commitment to ensure our courts reflect the country they serve.
Here’s a look at what voters in states across the country are reading on front pages about Judge Jackson’s historic confirmation:
The DNC is today launching a six-figure ad buy on Black radio stations and in Black community newspapers in battleground states across the country following Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic confirmation to the Supreme Court by a bipartisan U.S. Senate vote, as well as highlighting how President Joe Biden has been following through on his commitment to ensure our courts reflect the country they serve. This latest buy comes on top of another six-figure Black newspaper and radio buy placed by the DNC across the same states earlier this year.
The radio ads will air in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, and Nevada, and the print ads will appear in papers in Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.
“With Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic confirmation to the Supreme Court, record numbers of Black women appointed to federal judgeships, and Black men in in the Cabinet and senior roles in the West Wing, President Biden and Vice President Harris are following through on their promise to ensure our government is a reflection of the people it serves. With these ads, we’re making sure the Black community hears that for President Biden and Democrats, a promise made to voters is a promise kept,”said DNC Chair Jaime Harrison.
The ads both emphasize the leadership of President Biden and Vice President Harris and the commitments they have upheld to the American people, including appointing more Black women judges to the U.S. Court of Appeals than any other president, placing Black men at the helm of the Department of Defense and Environmental Protection Agency, and of course, nominating and helping secure the confirmation of the first ever Black woman on the Supreme Court.
President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are keeping their commitment to OUR community because our votes make the difference.
OUR president helped get America back to work, provided funding to support our families and small businesses, and got our kids back to school. And he’s creating a government that looks like us.
President Biden appointed more Black women judges to the U.S. Court of Appeals than any other president.
He placed Black men at the helm of our country’s Defense Department and Environmental Protection Agency, and in senior advisor roles in the West Wing.
And we just witnessed the confirmation of the FIRST Black female U.S. Supreme Court Justice – our very own Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Republicans disrespectfully tried to block her and discount her sterling record. And they continue to say “no” to any progress for the American people.
But our president selected a candidate with exceptional credentials, impeccable character, and an unwavering dedication to the rule of law, the Constitution, and we the people.
So we congratulate the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson on her historic confirmation!
And thank YOU President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats for the promises made and the promises kept.

This week, President Biden, Vice President Harris and former President Obama proposed new measures to build on the Affordable Care Act and close the “family glitch,” which could help nearly 1 million Americans, driving local headlines about how Democrats are working to make health care coverage more affordable. At the same time, Republicans have promised to deliver an agenda of hiking taxes and higher health insurance premiums if they take power.
And while Democrats were working to lower health care costs, local headlines highlighted the 193 House Republican votes against the Affordable Insulin Now Act last week, which would cap the cost of insulin for many Americans at $35 per month.
Americans across the country saw gas prices begin to drop after President Biden announced the largest release of U.S. oil reserves in history to help American families who are paying more at the pump due to Putin’s Price Hike.
President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, which passed with no Republican support, made more headlines this week as its investments continued to bolster communities across the country, which will help make everything from housing to child care more affordable.
And Republican governors (looking at you DeSantis and Reynolds) keep taking credit for American Rescue Plan dollars, even after calling the bill, “Washington at its worst.”
“‘Ron DeSantis is once again trying to take credit for the success of the American Rescue Plan by announcing infrastructure investments in Florida that were made possible only thanks to President Biden and Democrats,’ Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Travis Reuther said in a statement. ‘To be clear, DeSantis has previously referred to the American Rescue Plan as ‘Washington at its worst,’ and he joined every Republican in Congress in staunchly opposing it.’”
“The state of Iowa is receiving $100 million dollars through the federal American Rescue Plan act in order to bolster Iowa’s community and attract visitors and new residents to the state.”
Not to be outdone, President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law made news everywhere from North Carolina to New Mexico for investments that will save Americans time and money by helping to boost public transit, improve energy efficiency, and more.
In case you missed it, gas prices across the country have started to drop after President Biden announced the largest release of oil reserves in history to help American families who are paying more at the pump due to Putin’s Price Hike.
Here’s a look at some of the coverage in states from Florida to California of how President Biden’s actions are helping lead Americans to pay less at the pump.
Across the country this weekend, local headlines highlighted the 193 House Republican votes against the Affordable Insulin Now Act last week, which would cap the cost of insulin for many Americans at $35 per month. The bill is the most recent effort by Democrats to lower health care costs.
See below what Americans in states across the nation are reading about the stark contrast between Democrats voting to lower drug prices and the vast majority of Republicans refusing to do so:
This isn’t the first time that Republicans have shown they won’t act to address high drug costs. Just last month, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley admitted that a Republican-controlled Senate would not take action on lowering drug prices, saying “If we want to reduce drug prices, then we need to do it now [under a Democratic Congress].”
