During his press conference on Thursday, President Biden refused to take responsibility for the fact that the border crisis is a direct result of his Administration’s policies and rhetoric that have encouraged migrants to attempt to unlawfully enter the United States.
ABC News’ Cecilia Vega cited a report she recently filed demonstrating the crisis on the border and asked about one mother who said she sent her son to this country because of President Biden’s rhetoric:
“We’re gonna do a lot in our administration. We’re gonna be spending that $700-plus million a year to change the life and circumstances of why people leave in the first place,” Pres. Biden tells @CeciliaVega about how he plans to tackle the migrant surge. https://t.co/hVIwe4Vtwupic.twitter.com/HpV4NkmNkH
FALSE: Biden Is Wrong; This Doesn’t Happen Every Year
In his answer, the President did not acknowledge that his Administration is responsible for the the historic surge of migrants to the border, and falsely claimed that “nothing has changed” and that the migrant surge “happens every single solitary year.”
In fact, illegal border crossings in February, 2021 increased 173% from February, 2020 and they have increased 28% from January, 2021 when President Biden signed executive orders that eliminated border security policies:
WashEx (Love): “Biden lies about reversing Trump’s successful immigration diplomacy”
In his answer, President Biden also said that he planned to address the crisis by sending $700+ million to countries to curb illegal immigration. This follows reports that his Administration wants to send $4 billion to “help development in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.”
This Marshall Plan for Central America will only waste more American tax dollars, will take years to actually make an impact, and won’t stop the ongoing crisis. In fact, recentreports from the Government Accountability Office have shown that these investments do not stop or slow illegal immigration. Watch the below report from Fox News from earlier this morning below:
Last week, Democrats on the House Administration Committee voted to move ahead with an effort that would reject the results of the election in Iowa’s Second Congressional District that was certified by the bipartisan State Canvassing Board.
This attempt by Speaker Pelosi to rob voters in the district of their voice and seize more power for herself is being criticized across the board:
CNN: “House Democrats face backlash on both sides for investigating Iowa House race won by a Republican”
Politico: “Dems sound alarm at prospect of overturning Iowa race”
The Hill: “Democratic lawmaker criticizes idea of overturning Iowa race”
Editorial boards have also weighed in to expose how this attempted steal of an election is an affront to our democracy:
WashEx (Editorial): “The Iowa steal: To Democrats, ‘democracy’ means unbridled majority power”
Speaker Pelosi has shown that she will do anything to increase her power, even if it tramples on the Constitution or the sanctity of our institutions. That was clear when she passed H.R. 1 which empowers her and her members at the expense of taxpayers and state and local governments, and that’s even more evident as she works to overturn the results of a certified election.
The Biden Administration has indicated that after spending nearly $2,000,000,000,000 on a partisan wishlist that doesn’t actually provide COVID relief, they want to move forward on a $3,000,000,000,000 package that funds their Green New Deal agenda and will be paid for by raising Americans’ taxes. See more below:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez admitted the truth recently by saying that Biden’s infrastructure package was really part of the “framework” for the Green New Deal.
REP. ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: “One of the big goals we had when we introduced the Green New Deal was to show how people thought about climate change from being a billion dollar problem to a trillion-dollar opportunity…. This infrastructure package generally seems to be shaping up in that kind of framework.”
Even Politico has said that saying this package is about infrastructure is a “misnomer” because the legislation is designed to enact “the structural economic changes on which President Joe Biden campaigned.”
According to The Washington Post, the bill will include proposals that are ripped directly from the Green New Deal like, “$400 billion in spending to combat climate change, including $60 billion for infrastructure related to green transit and $46 billion for climate-related research and development. The plan also would aim to make electric-vehicle charging stations available across the country.”
The Administration admits that they will have to pay for this kind of spending by raising taxes on the American people:
Democrats have shown no indication that they will negotiate or listen to Republican input as they craft this infrastructure package.
Fox News: “Democrats may bypass Republicans to muscle through trillion-dollar infrastructure bill
Yesterday, the Republican Leader on the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Kevin Brady, announced that Republicans would not be participating in Democrats’ partisan “Members’ Day” hearing that allows for no meaningful dialogue between both parties on a crucial issue like infrastructure.
REP. KEVIN BRADY: “As you know, infrastructure has a long been a bipartisan issue in Congress for decades. Republicans and Democrats have come together on finding common ground on key issues whether it’s roads and bridges, highways, ports, railroads, broadband, aviation, the broad range of infrastructure. Regrettably, in our view today’s hearing is nothing more than another partisan exercise so Democrat House leadership can set up yet another multi-trillion-dollar one-sided spending bill.”
Democrats are executing the same game plan that they followed for their disastrous COVID relief bill. Now, they are using “infrastructure,” as an excuse to advance costly policies that will have negative consequences and hurt taxpayers in the long run, all while refusing to offer any voice to Republicans.
This crisis continues to rage as a result of President Biden’s policies that weaken our border security and encourage migrants to flood our southern border. Here’s the latest:
More than 16,000 unaccompanied minors are in U.S. Custody, according to CBS News. CNN has reported that nearly twice as many unaccompanied minors are being apprehended each day when compared to the peak we saw in 2019.
The Biden Administration is now being forced to open new facilities to house these migrants, instead of actually taking steps to stop the crisis by securing the border.
Tom Homan, the former Acting Director of ICE, explains that the Biden Administration’s rhetoric about the border being secure and closed is not accurate:
Fox News (Homan): “Our border is not closed or secure. That’s a lie. Why aren’t we being told the truth?”
NBC News reported that border patrol agents are releasing migrants into the United States without court dates because of the surge.
14 House Republicans sent a letter to DHS Secretary Mayorkas questioning why the law is not being enforced.
The Mayor of Gila Bend, AZ declared a state of emergency after migrants were placed in his town by border patrol.
Thousands of migrants have also been released into the United States without ensuring they had been tested for COVID-19.
Even the President of Mexico is blaming the Biden Administration for this crisis:
PRESIDENT ANDRÉS MANUEL LÓPEZ OBRADOR: “Expectations were created that with the government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so.”
To address this crisis, we need to secure the border. Democrats’ plan to throw more taxpayer money abroad with no accountability shows how unserious they are about addressing this situation that’s continuing to get worse.
Because Democrats’ $1.9 trillion wishlist bill was so large and unfocused, it exceeded the rules under PAYGO and the CBO indicated that the bloated nature of the legislation would trigger a cut of up to $36 billion in Medicare funding beginning in 2022.
The Washington Times: “Democrats’ $1.9 trillion relief bill would trigger $36 billion in Medicare cuts in 2022, says CBO”
To prevent the consequences of their bad legislation and policymaking from coming to a head, Democrats will vote today on a bill that would prevent these cuts from going into effect. For more on this bill, see the below document from Republicans on the House Budget Committee, which also includes information on an alternative piece of legislation that would actually protect seniors and prevent Medicare cuts by removing waste in the Democrats’ bailout bill:
Republicans’ alternative is far better than Democrats’ proposal since it takes into account concerns with the rising deficit and actually calls for off-setting spending cuts, eliminating some of the waste that was a part of Speaker Pelosi’s $1.9T wishlist.
The fact also remains that if Democrats pass this bill, they will have even more incentive to raise taxes on hardworking Americans which they laid the groundwork for doing this week. Already, the Biden Administration is shifting their position, going from promising that no one who earns under $400,000/year will see a tax increase to saying yesterday that individuals who earn $200,000/year could see their taxes increased:
Fox Business: “Biden’s proposed tax hike could hit Americans earning $200,000”
Today’s vote proves how dangerous and devastating Democrats’ $1.9T wishlist is for our country. Republicans will continue to explain why the wasteful spending, coming tax increases, and unfocused measures that all define this legislation will lead to negative consequences for the nation.
For days, House Republicans have explained how the open borders policies instituted by President Biden since taking office have encouraged migrants to flood the southwest border and create the crisis our nation is currently facing. During a House Homeland Security Committee hearing yesterday, Representative Michael McCaul effectively outlined to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas why the Administration’s policy changes have created this crisis: REP. McCAUL: “I think you sent exactly the wrong message when you stated, quote: “We are not saying don’t come, we’re just saying don’t come now.” That is not a message of deterrence. The Trump administration, in my judgment, did a masterful job in negotiating the remain in Mexico policy and the asylum cooperative agreements with Central America. It was a foreign policy achievement, actually. And it worked, migrants had to wait in Mexico for their asylum trial and the border was under control. However, with the stroke of a pen by President Biden these policies have been reversed and cancelled. Cartels and traffickers see the green light is on at our southern border and the United States is open for business again. Again, the message is come on in. Just like that, catch and release has returned as a policy of this nation, and so, Mr. Secretary, has the threat.”
These points come as Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee have developed additional information to detail how President Biden is directly responsible for this crisis:
Instead of urging President Biden to reverse the policies he has put in place that have caused this crisis or trying to work with Republicans to address it, House Democrats are intent on making it worse. One of the bills they will vote on today extends mass amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, which will only further incentivize migrants to unlawfully try to enter the United States because they will see that there are no consequences if they try to break our laws. For more on this mass amnesty bill and how it would exacerbate the current crisis, see the below doc from Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee:
In addition to the mass amnesty bill, another piece of legislation that will get a vote today will continue to encourage more illegal immigration by convincing migrants that they can stay in our country even if they enter unlawfully. See the following document from Republicans on the Judiciary Committee that emphasizes how this bill would allow for more amnesty and ultimately more illegal immigration:
President Biden and his Administration have demonstrated that they are not serious about addressing the border crisis. They won’t even call it a crisis and are unwilling to reverse their policies that have created the current situation. Now, House Democrats are complicit in this crisis as well. Instead of recognizing that there is a problem along the border or trying to solve it, they are committed to advancing policies that will only make it worse and create more disorder at the southern border.
Earlier this week, Rep. Marinette Miller-Meeks brought a motion to the floor that would require any individual released into the U.S. from CBP/ICE to receive a negative COVID-19 test. Something like this should be non-controversial and receive widespread support. We know COVID-positive individuals are crossing the border which allows the virus to spread in the United States. Instead of supporting this motion, Democrats decided to put their political agenda before sound policy and blocked it:
Fox News: “Democrats block GOP rep’s bill requiring negative COVID tests for illegal immigrants”
Offering this motion is just the latest step Rep. Miller-Meeks has taken to serve her constituents in IA-02. However, despite the fact that a bipartisan process within the state certified her as the winner of the congressional race in IA-02, Democrats are still moving forward with their efforts to steal this seat from her and install a Democrat.
This would be a massive abuse of power on Speaker Pelosi’s part, but she has also proven that she will put her political interests far above doing what’s right for the nation. Whether that was on her massive wishlist that did more to advance far-left causes than actually fight COVID, her legislation that seeks to federalize elections and protect Democrat politicians, or this instance with IA-02, it’s clear the Speaker cannot be trusted.
The electoral certification process belongs to the states. As Rep. Rodney Davis said earlier this week, “Rep. Miller-Meeks was certified the winner of Iowa’s 2nd District only after a thorough, transparent, and bipartisan process. Bipartisan recount boards, which included a member from each campaign and an agreed upon third party, in all 24 counties went through and counted and recounted every lawful vote under Iowa law. Following this process, Iowa’s bipartisan State Canvassing Board voted unanimously to certify Congresswoman Miller-Meeks the winner.”
In today’s Wall Street Journal, Karl Rove’s column explains how Speaker Pelosi could steal this seat and spells out the severe consequences that would have on the integrity of our elections and strength of our institutions:
“Mrs. Pelosi could widen her margin by ousting a Republican congresswoman and installing Ms. Hart. But if she does, she’d divide the House even more bitterly. There will be payback, one way or another. We’ll soon see how desperate the speaker is.”
There’s no question that this crisis is taking place because of the Administration’s policies that have weakened our border security and incentivized illegal immigrants to unlawfully enter the country. Instead of reversing these ideas that are clearly having devastating consequences, President Biden and Vice President Harris are abdicating their leadership responsibilities by choosing to ignore what’s happening:
President Biden tells reporters he has no plans to visit the US-Mexico border at the moment.
Biden is coming under increasing scrutiny for the situation at the southern border, as border patrol has been overwhelmed with a surge of unaccompanied migrant children.
The Daily Caller: “Biden Has No Plans To Visit Southern Border Amid Migration Surge”
Fox News: “VP Harris dodges question about migrant children: ‘I haven’t been briefed on anything today about it'”
When finally commenting on the situation last night, not only did President Biden refuse to label it a “crisis,” despite all the evidence, but he said that migrants should not come as the U.S. is “in the process of getting set up.” This is the wrong message. There is never an appropriate time for illegal immigrants to attempt to unlawfully enter the country, and anything other than an unequivocal statement condemning these attempts will only incentivize further dangerous activity along the southern border.
The President’s refusal to address this crisis is even more disturbing after we learned yesterday that suspects on the FBI’s terror watchlist have be arrested trying to enter the country at the the southern border:
Axios: “Scoop: Four people matching terror watchlist arrested at border”
This crisis is only going to grow more serious and further threaten our nation’s security. Republicans are serious about addressing it, but President Biden and his Administration seem far more interested in ignoring it than taking the steps necessary to get it under control.
