The Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act:

• This legislation prevents the Secretary of Energy from selling any of these reserves to an entity affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or any entity that intends to export it to China.
• Background:
  • The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) was created for weather events or national security emergencies—not political expediency.
  • Joe Biden has now drained our SPR by 36%—the lowest level since 1984.
  • In July, the Biden administration risked both our national and energy security by allowing oil from the SPR to be sold to a CCP affiliated company—even as Americans faced skyrocketing prices at the pump.
  • The Biden administration has continued to thwart federal land and offshore lease sales for oil and gas development over the past two years and has hindered the creation of pipelines and large-scale refineries.

    • House Republicans will hold China accountable for producing and funneling the main components of lethal illicit fentanyl to criminal cartels that then smuggle this deadly drug across our open southern border.
    • The Drug Enforcement Administration seized enough fentanyl in the U.S. to kill every single American last year, and fentanyl overdose is the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 18 and 49.
  • Exploiting U.S. investment to power the CCP national security state.
  • Acquisition of agricultural land in America:
    • Food security is national security. House Republicans will uncover the truth on the CCP purchasing American farmland and agriculture companies and endangering our national security.
    • Currently, China owns 192,000 acres of agricultural land in the U.S.

House Republicans will vote on a resolution establishing a Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government as a select investigative subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee.

Over the past two years, House Democrats have failed to conduct rigorous oversight of the Executive Branch and allowed the Biden administration to encroach on Americans’ constitutional rights.   • ​​President Biden’s Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, reportedly “solicited the much-criticized letter from the National School Boards Association (NSBA)” that compared concerned parents to “domestic terrorists” in September 2021.
  • The Department of Homeland security reportedly worked directly with Twitter to censor Americans’ free speech regarding human smuggling operations across our southern border.
    • Following the release of the bombshell Twitter Files, news broke that former FBI General Counsel Jim Baker was the Twitter counsel who secretly reviewed the documents before handing them over to journalists.
  • The Department of Justice has failed to properly pursue criminal charges against radicals who attack pro-life crisis pregnancy centers, churches, and organizations while aggressively pursuing criminal charges against pro-life activists.

MAKE NO MISTAKE: House Republicans are fulfilling our Commitment to America.

In order to work toward a government that’s accountable to the American people, tonight House Republicans will vote on legislation to defund Joe Biden’s army of 87,000 new IRS agents with the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act.

Families and small businesses are already paying the price of Joe Biden’s inflation tax—they don’t need increased audits by the IRS too. This legislation will defend hardworking Americans’ taxpayer dollars from bureaucratic waste and abuse while holding House Democrats and the Biden administration accountable for their out-of-touch priorities.

• Democrats voted to supercharge the IRS with a massive infusion of taxpayer dollars focused on IRS enforcement and the hiring of 87,000 new IRS agents to squeeze American taxpayers.
  • Republicans fought for guardrails to protect middle and lower-income taxpayers from increased audit scrutiny – Democrats rejected these protections.
• According to CBO, Democrats’ supercharged IRS will cause audit rates to “rise for all taxpayers” and a conservative analysis shows that returning audit rates to 2010 levels would mean 1.2 million more audits with over 700,000 of those falling on taxpayers making $75,000 or less.

  • Last Congress, House Democrats rammed through their reckless Inflation EXPANSION Act, allocating $80 billion to supersize the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with 87,000 new IRS agents and increase audits on middle-class Americans and businesses.
  • This expansion means the IRS would have more staff than the Pentagon, State Department, Border Patrol, and FBI combined.
  • As much as 90% of the funds raised by these new audits will be from taxpayers making less than $200,000 a year.

  • This June is the worst June on record, according to CBP data.
• Since Joe Biden took office, OVER 3.1 MILLION illegal immigrants have been apprehended at our southern border.
• In June, an additional six illegal immigrants apprehended at our southern border were on the terrorist watch list bringing the total to 56 for FY22.

DEMOCRATS’ CRIME CRISIS BY THE NUMBERS:

• Six major Democrat-run U.S. cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Baltimore are now on track to surpass the historic violent crime wave of last year.
  • 12 Democrat-run cities broke annual homicide records last year.
  • Homicide rates across the country are UP nearly 50% compared to 2020, according to the Major Cities Chiefs Association.
• Shootings of police officers are up 19% since 2021, according to the National Fraternal Order of Police.
  • 178 officers have been shot so far in 2022.
    • 33 of whom were killed.
  • 57 officers have been shot in ambush-style attacks.
• Progressive prosecutors are in cities that represent over 20% of the nation’s population.

House Democrats decided they haven’t gone far enough when it comes to attacking Americans’ Second Amendment rights and once again are comingfor our guns.

On Wednesday, July 20th, the House Judiciary Committee will markup H.R. 1808, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2021, and H.R. 2814, the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act. H.R. 1808 would ban AR-15s and similar semi-automatic rifles, which are among the most popular firearms being sold today, with nearly 20 million in circulation as of late 2020. H.R. 2814 would repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which was enacted in 2005 with broad bipartisan support, to protect the firearms industry from frivolous and politically-motivated lawsuits.

Assault Weapons Ban Fast Facts

• AR-15-style rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.” An assault rifle is fully automatic, a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.
• A Department of Justice assessment on renewing the prior federal law banning categories of semi-automatic firearms and limiting magazine capacity determined that the “impact on gun violence is likely to be small at best, and perhaps too small for reliable measurement.”
• The RAND Corporation conducted a comprehensive survey of existing, high quality literature on the effects of various gun control measures and concluded there was no reliable evidence that magazine capacity limits or bans on categories of semi-automatic firearms have a beneficial effect on reducing violent crime generally or mass shootings in particular.
• The DOJ’s annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR) consistently showsthat murders from all rifles – not just semi-automatics – are less than that of murders committed with knives, clubs and fists.
• Even the left-leaning Politifact rated this comparison “Mostly True” after parsing the data.

GUN OWNERS BY THE NUMBERS:

• The Biden administration is ignoring the fact that Americans – of all races, creeds, colors and all walks of life – are purchasing firearms in record numbers.
• Over 14 million Americans purchased a firearm for the first time in 2020 and 2021.
• Background checks for the sale of a gun shattered previous records in 2020 at over 21 million, and another 18.5 million were completed in 2021.
• For 35 months straight, there have been over 1 million background checks for gun sales.
• According to a recent survey of industry retailers, nearly 47 percent of first-time gun buyers in 2021 inquired about training and 43 percent signed up for training.
• Nearly 23 percent of retailers indicated that first-time gun buyers in 2020 purchased another firearm in 2021.
• Over 33 percent of first-time gun buyers in 2021 were women.
