DNC Battleground Brief

27 Jun

This is the DNC’s Battleground Brief — a weekly wrap-up of Trump’s broken promises and everything you need to know across the path to 270.

“PLAYED”: DEMOCRATS PUMMEL TRUMP ON TRADE FAILURES. This week, the DNC released a new ad in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and nationally on Trump’s failed trade war with China, and Democrats across the battlegrounds slammed his broken promises on trade and the devastating impacts on American workers and farmers.

CNN: Democrats Go On Offense Against Trump On Trade And China.

  • “The Democratic National Committee is going on offense against President Donald Trump’s trade record, hoping that a new television ad campaign and a series of focused events headlined by top Democrats will persuade voters who backed Trump in 2016 to reject him four years later.”
  • “The committee is hoping the focused effort — which will include events led by former Democratic presidential candidates Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Elizabeth Warren — will help them in states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, three key battleground states where farming and manufacturing are major industries.”

In Pennsylvania:

Pittsburgh City Paper: “The ad calls out Trump for claiming that he would ‘get tough on China’ but notes that instead ‘he got played,’ while using images of Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. It cites a 2018 PennLive report that interviews several Pennsylvania farmers that have decried Trump’s tariffs and how they have hurt their industry, including soybean farmers.”

CBS 21: Elizabeth Warren: “As we face these crises, one thing is certain: Donald Trump is unprepared and incapable of leading this country through crises.”

CBS 21: Tom Perez: “You now have an administration that left small businesses behind. […] That’s the difference between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, Joe Biden is looking out for everyday Americans.”

Lancaster Farming: Will Farmers Trust Trump on Trade? “A new campaign ad shows Trump with a smiling Xi Jinping, China’s leader, and says, ‘We can’t afford four more years of losing.’ The spot will be targeted to swing states including Pennsylvania. Tom Perez, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said the agreement has failed to bring exports back to where they were before the trade war, and that Trump chose his negotiation tactics poorly.”

CBS News: “The DNC Wednesday will also be releasing a Pennsylvania-specific version of the ad which will highlight the impact of the president’s trade policies on workers and farmers in the battleground state. It’s part of a new push to highlight the President’s record on trade and China nationally and in key states. The DNC says the ad will run in Pittsburgh as part of their six-figure campaign over five weeks to hold Mr. Trump accountable.”

In Wisconsin:

WI AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Dennis Delie in the Wisconsin Examiner: Trump has betrayed working people in Wisconsin: “During the 2016 campaign Donald Trump promised working class Wisconsinites — the very people I represent — that he would have our backs. But every action he has taken as president has left us behind, and now our lives are harder than ever. Now, as the country grapples with a jobs crisis Trump exacerbated, he claims it’s the fault of anyone but him.”

CBS 5: Tom Perez: “Farmers aren’t over the hump, farmers are over the barrel.”

In Michigan

MIRS: DNC Anti-Trump Digital Ad Says Michigan Has Been ‘Played’: “The Democratic National Committee is releasing a Michigan-specific version of its new digital ad that claims President Donald Trump’s alleged failed record on trade cost Michigan 1,545 jobs. The ad, entitled ‘Played’ says Trump’s ‘reckless trade policies’ has had a ‘devastating impact’ on Michigan workers and farmers.”

Fox 2: MI Dems Chair Lavora Barnes: “This president stood in Michigan and said to the Michigan workers: you will see more jobs, you will see no plant closing. And, he broke those promises almost immediately upon taking the presidency.”

ABC 57: Pete Buttigieg: “I’m a little bit surprised at how brazenly he has broken his promises to the very American workers and American farmers that he claimed to speak to and for when he ran for president and since he took office.”

HEALTH CARE, HEALTH CARE, HEALTH CARE! — TRUMP BLASTED FOR ATTACKING ACA AMIDST WORSENING PANDEMIC. As Trump and Republican-led states filed briefs at the Supreme Court to strike down the Affordable Care Act, Democrats across the battlegrounds slammed the GOP for pushing a toxic health care agenda that threatens coverage, spikes costs, and jeopardizes protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions — in the midst of a global pandemic.

  • AZ Dems: “Instead of working to deliver relief to our communities, Trump and the GOP are hellbent on ripping away health care coverage from Arizona families in the midst of a global pandemic. Arizonans deserve leaders who will keep their promises and fight to expand coverage, lower costs, and secure protections for pre-existing conditions  — not wage attacks on our health care when we need it most.”
  • FL Dems: “‘While Floridians are trying to stay afloat during the dual health and economic crisis born of the coronavirus pandemic, Donald Trump is still forging ahead with his lawsuit to strip millions of Americans of their health care.”
  • MI Dems: “‘Even a global pandemic can’t stop Donald Trump’s relentless fight to strip health care from over 700,000 Michiganders,’ said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. ‘His latest attack is a shameful continuation of a war on health care that will devastate working families in our state.’”
  • NH Dems: “Today, Trump is continuing his lawsuit to destroy the #AffordableCareAct. Yes, in the middle of a pandemic! Trump knows if his lawsuit is successful, 23 million Americans will lose their health care. And he doesn’t care. We cannot let Trump get away with this.”

“DOOM”: TRUMP’S DISASTROUS WEEK IN FLORIDA. From angry voters to growing organizing disadvantages, things keep getting worse for Trump in the Sunshine State.

Newsweek: Florida’s Seniors, Latinos Are Losing Faith in Trump, Dooming His Campaign. “Seniors and Latinos in the battleground state Florida have lost faith in President Donald Trump’s performance, and with double-digit deficits in his national polling, it signals doom for his campaign. Democrats, it appears, have found their opening.”

Politico: Florida Democrats gain vote-by-mail advantage. “Democrats have opened up a 302,000-voter advantage over Republicans in vote-by-mail enrollment, an edge that could pay big dividends in President Donald Trump’s newly adopted must-win state.”

  • Associated Press: Florida Dems Get Advantage Over GOP in Vote-By-Mail Requests. “Florida Democrats appear to have amassed a significant lead over Republicans in the number of voters seeking to vote by mail during the pandemic, creating a possible hedge against any Election Day downturn in turnout amid in-person voting worries. The Democratic edge also comes as President Donald Trump continues to sow doubt within his own Republican party about the integrity of absentee ballots.”

Politico: Trump’s Maduro comments create political mess in must-win Florida. “The mere flirtation with diplomatic talks with Maduro could hurt Trump’s standing in the nation’s largest swing state, which he needs to win in November in order to return to the White House for a second term.”

HOLDING TRUMP ACCOUNTABLE. Wherever Trump and his cronies go, Democrats are calling out his broken promises.

In Ohio:

WKBN: Ohio Democrats speak virtually prior to Pence’s Lordstown visit.

“‘Donald Trump told Ohioans, he told folks in the Valley, ‘Don’t move. Don’t sell your homes. It was all coming back,’ but that’s exactly what so many folks have had to do,’ said David Pepper, chair of the Democratic Party in Ohio.”

Associated Press: “State Democratic Chairman David Pepper called the visit a ‘photo op’ in an area where Trump failed to keep promises to 1,700 GM workers displaced by the plant’s closure.”

Mahoning Matters: “In a Wednesday roundtable including Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper and Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown, Democratic leaders criticized the Trump administration for neglecting the region. […] Pepper called today’s visit ‘too little too late for the people of the Mahoning Valley.’”

In Arizona:

KYMA: Arizona Democrats opposing President Trump’s visit to Yuma. “As President Trump arrived in Yuma Tuesday morning, Arizona Democrats hosted a webinar voicing their opposition to the President’s visit, as Arizona becomes a hotspot for coronavirus. […] All of the leaders on the webinar made it clear they didn’t believe President Trump should be visiting the border during the current crisis Arizona is facing. DNC Chair Tom Perez began the discussion with, ‘Donald Trump is taking his broken promises tour to Arizona. A state that is ground zero for his failures of leadership.’”

KAWC: Arizona Democrats Voice Opposition To President Trump’s Border Security Visit. “During the conference call with local Democrats, Yuma State Representative, and minority leader in the Arizona House, Charlene Fernandez, said the President’s more frequent visits to Arizona are because he is concerned Democrats could flip the state blue in 2020. ‘We know his numbers are slipping here.  We know that Democrats are energized and ready to come together behind one of the best presidential candidates we’ve ever seen,’ Fernandez said.”

Tucson Sentinel: “Democratic Party Chairman Tom Perez criticized the president in a Zoom news conference a few hours before the rally. ‘Over 1,300 Arizonans have already lost their lives, and today Trump is coming into town for a pep rally. What a disgrace,’ Perez said. ‘He should be visiting health care providers and other front-line workers. This is the wrong time and the wrong place to bring together people for a political vanity process.’”

In Wisconsin:

Urban Milwaukee: Wisconsin Leaders Slam Pence and Trump as They Head to Badger State. “Today, ahead of Mike Pence and Donald Trump’s visits to Wisconsin this week, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler, Oconomowoc Alderman and IBEW 494 Political Director John Zapfel, and Bounce Milwaukee Owners Becky and Ryan Clancy held a video press call highlighting the Trump administration’s hypocrisy on religious freedom, how they have destroyed Wisconsin’s economy and relentlessly attacked Wisconsin’s health care during a pandemic.”

Gray TV: “State Democratic party leader Ben Wikler claims the visit is intended to distract voters. ‘He is desperate to change the subject,’ said Wikler. ‘The jobs that have been lost across the state, in our agricultural and industrial sectors, are not going to be rushing back.’”

WTMJ: “But the Democratic Party of Wisconsin says the Trump Administration has not delivered. ‘From failing to provide adequate PPP loans to black-owned businesses, relentlessly attacking protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and creating an economy where the Black community isn’t given the same opportunities to get ahead, Trump and Pence have proven that their toxic agenda isn’t designed to work for Black Wisconsinites,’  said party Vice Chair Felesia Martin.”

In Georgia:

GA Dems: Ahead of DeVos Visit, Georgia Democrats Slam Trump’s Broken Promises. “Betsy DeVos can’t spin Donald Trump’s record of broken promises. In the midst of his failed pandemic response, Trump and DeVos are using this crisis to push a disastrous anti-education agenda and deny basic protections to survivors of sexual assault on college campuses. We deserve leaders who will stand up for Georgia’s students — not serve a handful of well-connected interests. That’s why Georgians are mobilizing like never before, it’s why we’re going to put an end to this failed presidency, and it’s why we’re going to send Joe Biden to the White House.”

In Florida:

FL Dems: “Chad Wolf can’t spin his boss’ disastrous record. As our country united to demand change following the murder of George Floyd, the Trump administration dog whistled to white supremacists, ignored systemic racism in law enforcement, and sicced the US military on peaceful protesters. Floridians deserve better — Joe Biden has been addressing these problems head on and is exactly the type of compassionate, thoughtful leader we need in the White House.”

TESTING SLOW DOWN HAUNTS TRUMP ACROSS THE BATTLEGROUNDS. Trump’s failed pandemic response continues to hurt him with battleground voters, even drawing fire from prominent Republicans.

Reuters: Approval of Trump’s coronavirus response sinks to lowest on record amid surge in cases. “American approval of President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic has dropped to the lowest level on record, the latest Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll shows, as new COVID-19 cases surged and Trump was widely criticized for suggesting he wanted to slow down testing.”

In Texas:

Houston Chronicle: ‘Risk that is not worth taking.’ Sens. Cornyn, Cruz urge feds to keep supporting COVID test sites. “Texas U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn are urging the Trump administration not to pull federal support from four testing sites in Harris County, saying it’s ‘a risk that is not worth taking’ as coronavirus cases surge. The pushback from the two Republican senators and Trump allies amplifies the outcry against the administration’s plan to stop providing funding and resources to seven testing sites in Texas at the end of the month.”

In New Hampshire:

Union Leader: Trump failed the COVID-19 test. “Now he wants to limit testing and pack people into rallies, largely unmasked, because he doesn’t wear one. […] His disdain for anything that impacts his reelection chances regardless of impacts to our citizens should give pause to anyone thinking of voting for him in November, especially if you are an older American.”

In North Carolina:

NCDP Communications Director Austin Cook in High Country Press: “‘From day one, this president has not taken the threat of COVID-19 seriously, and people across our state have paid the price for his inaction and incompetence. Ramping down the federal government’s response to this pandemic is nothing short of admitting defeat and leaving millions of North Carolinians at risk.’”

ON THE (VIRTUAL) CAMPAIGN TRAIL: DEMOCRATS CONTINUE RAMPING UP FOR THE FALL.

Trump Fights To Take Health Care Away From 20 Million Americans During Pandemic

27 Jun

During the worst health crisis of our lifetimes and the worst unemployment crisis since the Great Depression, Trump is fighting to strip protections from as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions and take health care away from 20 million Americans.

The Trump administration filed briefs to the Supreme Court to strike down the ACA during a pandemic and recession.

NBC News: “Trump administration asks Supreme Court to strike down Obamacare amid pandemic, recession”

If successful, Trump would take health care from 20 million Americans and leave 25 million unemployed Americans without the ACA as a lifeline.

NBC News: “If the justices agree, it would cost an estimated 20 million Americans their insurance coverage and nullify protections for pre-existing conditions.”

NBC News: “For the roughly 25 million people out of work and collecting jobless benefits, the ACA’s marketplaces and Medicaid expansion provide avenues to gain subsidized health insurance with consumer protections.”

Trump would also end protections for people with preexisting conditions, despite claiming three days ago he’d always protect them.

TRUMP: “We will always protect people with preexisting conditions.”

NBC News: “The brief includes a section pointedly arguing that the Affordable Care Act’s pre-existing condition rules must be overturned as well.”

Trump’s expansion of junk insurance plans has already left many Americans with massive medical bills for live-saving care.

Wall Street Journal: “Many consumers have been forced to pay for their own lifesaving treatment under shorter-term health plans that have seen enrollment jumps since the Trump administration relaxed restrictions on them, according to a report released Thursday by House Democrats on the Energy and Commerce Committee.”

Consumer Confidence Hits Lowest Level Under Trump After Kudlow Cites It As A Sign Of Recovery

27 Jun

Larry Kudlow, Trump’s top economic advisor, is on a hot streak of terrible predictions. Last month, he cited consumer confidence as an early sign of the economy recovering. Well, it just fell to its lowest level of Trump’s presidency.

LAST MONTH: Larry Kudlow cited consumer confidence as an early sign of economic recovery.

KUDLOW: “A lot of evidence of the early signs of recovery. We are seeing it almost across the board, not quite, but almost across the board. Consumer confidence today was up a little bit.”

THIS MONTH: Consumer confidence fell to the lowest level during Trump’s presidency.

MarketWatch: “Americans turned slightly more cautious about how quickly the economy will recover from the coronavirus in late June as confidence in Washington’s policies fell to the lowest level during the Trump presidency, according to a closely followed survey of consumer sentiment.”

DNC on Anniversaries of Landmark LGBTQ Victories at the Supreme Court

26 Jun

DNC Chair Tom Perez and LGBTQ Caucus Chair Earl Fowlkes released the following statement on the anniversaries of the Supreme Court’s decisions in Obergefell v. Hodges, United States v. Windsor, and Lawrence v. Texas:

“Five years ago, the Supreme Court recognized the inherent dignity in every person and expanded marriage equality to all Americans. This decision joined a host of landmark victories for LGBTQ+ equality handed down during Pride Month, most recently recognizing the right to work free of harassment and discrimination. We live in a more just, equal, and fair society today thanks to the activism of LGBTQ+ people across the United States who spoke their truth, challenged the status quo, and refused to back down.

“We still have a long way to go on the path toward full equality, especially in the fight to protect and defend the most vulnerable, including trans women of color, LGBTQ+ homeless youth, and others who face discrimination and life-threatening bigotry. You don’t have to look far to see that intolerance personified at the highest levels of our government: Trump’s administration has stripped away rights for and effectively legalized discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans in education, health care, housing, and the military. Just two weeks ago, the Republican National Committee endorsed a platform that calls for overturning gay marriage and legalizing anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination. It is impossible to imagine the same White House Donald Trump now resides in once lit up in rainbow colors to celebrate the advancement of equality for all.

“We must elect Joe Biden to restore the federal government’s moral leadership and champion LGBTQ+ rights. Vice President Biden is an unshakeable ally of the LGBTQ+ community and his call for marriage equality was historic. As president, he will expand protections from discrimination by signing the Equality Act, enforce civil rights laws, support LGBTQ+ youth, and combat violence against transgender and gender non-conforming people. He had the LGBTQ+ community’s back on marriage, and he will have their back as president.”

Kudlow Says ‘We Just Have To Live With’ Coronavirus Spikes As Trump Does Nothing

26 Jun

New coronavirus cases hit another single-day record high yesterday, which the Trump administration says “we just have to live with”—but we wouldn’t have to if it weren’t for Trump’s failed response.

New coronavirus cases just hit another daily record high, and the true number of infections could be 10 times higher than the confirmed case count.

NPR: “With numbers spiking across southern states, the U.S. set a daily record for new COVID-19 cases Thursday in a return to figures not seen since late April.”

NBC News: “The true number of Americans who’ve been infected with COVID-19 may top 20 million, according to new estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

Kudlow said yesterday that we’re just going to have to live with that.

KUDLOW: “We’re going to have hotspots, there is no question… We just have to live with that.”

KUDLOW: “Texas, Florida, Arizona, the Carolinas, some difficult points… And I must say, we’re going to have to—you know, we’re going to have to live with this from time to time.”

Meanwhile, Trump continued to downplay the importance of testing by repeating the same lie that if we did less testing there wouldn’t be any cases.

TRUMP: “If we didn’t test we wouldn’t have cases. But we have cases because we test.”

TRUMP: “If we didn’t do testing, we’d have no cases.”

As states plead for help, Trump refuses to provide it. Instead, he is declaring victory and going about business as usual.

Politico: “States plead for help while White House touts success in curbing virus”

Politico: “Top political officials in Florida, Arizona, Texas and numerous other states are grappling with a rapid surge in coronavirus cases, facing the threat of an out-of-control outbreak that washes over their citizens and overwhelms their health care systems. Top political officials in the White House say it’s business as usual from their perspective.”

TRUMP: ‘It’s A Great Ad For Them’

26 Jun

Earlier this week, the DNC War Room released a new ad entitled “Played,” which really got under Trump’s skin.

First, he complained about it on Twitter:

TRUMP: “Biden failed with China. They took us to the cleaners! I got $Billions out of China, and gave much of it to our targeted farmers!”

And then tonight at his Fox News town hall, he begrudgingly admitted it was a great ad:

TRUMP: “On the campaign they’ll say such horrible things about me. It’s a very unfair business, but the ad he did this morning, it’s a great ad for them. ‘I got beaten by China.’”

In The Battlegrounds: Democrats Slam Trump’s Broken Promises As Republicans Continue ACA Lawsuit

26 Jun

Today, as Donald Trump and Republican-led states filed briefs at the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the Affordable Care Act, Democrats across the battlegrounds slammed Trump and the GOP for pushing a toxic health care agenda that threatens coverage, spikes costs, and jeopardizes protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions — even in the midst of a global pandemic. Take a look:

AZ Dems:  “The Affordable Care Act has been a critical lifeline for Arizona families who have been left reeling from Donald Trump’s catastrophic coronavirus response. But instead of working to deliver relief to our communities, Trump and the GOP are hellbent on ripping away health care coverage from Arizona families in the midst of a global pandemic. Arizonans deserve leaders who will keep their promises and fight to expand coverage, lower costs, and secure protections for pre-existing conditions  — not wage attacks on our health care when we need it most.

CO Dems: “Today, with the support of Senator Cory Gardner, the Trump Administration and the GOP will submit briefs recklessly urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would rip care away from an estimated 470,000 Coloradans, endanger protections for 2.4 million Coloradans with pre-existing conditions, and undermine the nation’s public health response to coronavirus.”

FL Dems: “‘While Floridians are trying to stay afloat during the dual health and economic crisis born of the coronavirus pandemic, Donald Trump is still forging ahead with his lawsuit to strip millions of Americans of their health care,’ said FDP Chair Terrie Rizzo, ‘Today is a reminder of just how important it is for Floridians to elect Joe Biden in November — we need a president who will treat health care as a right, not a privilege and work tirelessly to make that a reality for all Floridians.’”

GA Dems: “During the worst health crisis Georgians have faced in our lifetimes, it is unconscionable that Donald Trump and Republicans including Chris Carr are moving forward with their cruel lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act. Tens of thousands of Georgians have lost their jobs and health insurance because of Trump’s chaotic, failed pandemic response.”

MI Dems: “‘Even a global pandemic can’t stop Donald Trump’s relentless fight to strip health care from over 700,000 Michiganders,’ said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. ‘His latest attack is a shameful continuation of a war on health care that will devastate working families in our state.’”

NC Dems: “Today’s filing by the Republicans and the Trump administration is a purely partisan attempt to undo years of progress when it comes to accessible health insurance. Millions of North Carolinians depend on the protections of the ACA, and Republicans have made it clear that they will never stop their assault on these benefits. This is an attack on working families in our state, and come November, we’ll remind Donald Trump and his allies that they can’t get away with it.”

NH Dems: “Today, Trump is continuing his lawsuit to destroy the #AffordableCareAct. Yes, in the middle of a pandemic! Trump knows if his lawsuit is successful, 23 million Americans will lose their health care. And he doesn’t care. We cannot let Trump get away with this.”

NV Dems: “It’s the same old tired playbook with Trump and Republicans–despite Americans favoring the ACA and repeated failed attempts to repeal the law, they will stop at nothing to ensure hundreds of thousands of Nevadans lose their care.”

OH Dems: “Yesterday the U.S. had its highest single-day total of new coronavirus cases reported since the crisis began. Today the Trump administration is trying to convince the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out the Affordable Care Act. […] Here in Ohio, this lawsuit would have devastating consequences if Trump and the GOP are successful. The Center for American Progress estimates that more than 860,000 Ohioans could lose their health coverage.”

PA Dems: “Access to health care has never been more critical, but Trump and his allies just don’t get it. Democrats in Congress are working on new legislation to lower costs, expand coverage, and strengthen protections for pre-existing conditions. The contrast has never been more clear: while Republicans are working to rip away health care, Democrats are fighting to make access easier and expand coverage. Voters have a choice in November and they’ll choose the side that cares about the health and well-being of their families.”

TX Dems: “In the middle of a global pandemic, Texas Trump Republicans, like indicted Attorney General Ken Paxton, continue their attacks on the Affordable Care Act. For millions of Texans, the law has never been as important as it is now. If Republicans are successful, nearly 2 million Texans will lose healthcare coverage. That is unacceptable and flat out wrong. […] We should be fighting to protect and expand healthcare for all, not cutting off access for millions of people.”

VA Dems: “741,000 Virginians stand to lose their health care if the ACA is repealed. Drop the lawsuit.”

WI Dems: “What’s more is Trump is continuing his callous crusade to repeal the ACA, which would strip millions of Wisconsinites of their health insurance, threaten protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and eliminate an affordable option for those who lost their employer-based health care during this pandemic. This is nothing more than a cheap ploy that Wisconsinites will see through as they plan to vote for Joe Biden come November.”

DNC RELEASES NEW AD ON TRUMP’S TRADE RECORD IN WI: “PLAYED”

25 Jun

Today the Democratic National Committee is releasing a Wisconsin-specific version of its new advertisement highlighting Donald Trump’s failed record on trade. The ad, entitled “Played,” highlights the devastating impact of Trump’s reckless trade policies on Wisconsin workers and farmers.

“Trump said he’d get tough on China, but he didn’t. Trump clamored for a trade war with China and said that it would be easy to win, but he lost. And Trump’s go-it-alone tariffs inflicted pain on Wisconsin workers, not China. Instead of forcing China to the table to negotiate a trade deal that protected us, China smelled Trump’s desperation and played him like a cheap guitar,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “Working families in Wisconsin — and across the country — can’t afford four more years of Trump losing to China.”

The spot is part of the DNC’s new push highlighting Trump’s record on trade and China nationally and in key battleground states — including virtual events this week with Wisconsin farmers, and events in Michigan with Mayor Pete Buttigeg and in Pennsylvania with Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Earlier this month, the DNC also released polling from six battleground states, including Wisconsin, detailing how voters in these states disagree with Trump’s handling of China during his administration.

The ad will reach voters in Wisconsin and generate hundreds of thousands of impressions as part of the DNC’s six-figure campaign over the course of five weeks to hold Trump accountable.

WATCH IT HERE

TRANSCRIPT:

Announcer: Trump said he’d get tough on China. He didn’t get tough — he got played.

Announcer: Trump lost a trade war that he started.

Announcer: Farmers, bankrupted. Steel workers, betrayed. And manufacturing, in a recession.

Announcer: Donald Trump lost.

Announcer: And Wisconsin can’t afford for more years of losing.

Joe Biden: I’m Joe Biden and I approve this message.

In Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Warren, DNC Chair Tom Perez Slam Trump for Broken Promises on China Trade Policy

25 Jun

Tom Perez: “China smelled Trump’s desperation and played him like a fiddle”

As the nation continues to grapple with historic unemployment numbers and the ramifications of Trump’s failure to stand up to China on trade and the coronavirus, Senator Elizabeth Warren joined DNC Chair Tom Perez and Pennsylvania Democrats to slam Trump for his broken promises to Pennsylvania workers, farmers, and families.

The event was part of the DNC’s push to spotlight Donald Trump’s broken promises on trade, and how his failure to stand up to China has cost jobs and hurt working families. It also coincided with the release of the DNC’s new Pennsylvania-specific TV advertisement in the Pittsburgh media market focused on Trump’s failed trade policies with China. See more below:

CBS 21 Harrisburg: Elizabeth Warren: “As we face these crises, one thing is certain: Donald Trump is unprepared and incapable of leading this country through crises.”

Tom Perez on Harrisburg’s CBS 21: “You now have an administration that left small businesses behind…That’s the difference between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, Joe Biden is looking out for everyday Americans.”

International Trade Today: “The Democratic National Committee chairman, and progressive star Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., described President Donald Trump’s trade war with China as a failed attempt at getting tough on China that hurt Pennsylvania exporters and manufacturers.”
