Doctor Who fans will ‘react to Jodie Whittaker’s Yorkshire accent over gender’, says Steven Moffatt

Steven Moffatt has confirmed that Jodie Whittaker will be making her grand debut as the 13th Doctor and the first woman Doctor in her native Yorkshire accent. 

David Tennant may have had to ditch his Scottish tones to play the 10th Doctor in BBC’s Doctor Who, but his successors seem to have been able to keep their homegrown elocutions.

Peter Capaldi spoke in his thick Highlands accent, and it looks like Broadchurch’s Jodie will be able to stick to her way of saying things after Peter’s 12th incarnation as the Doctor bows out during the Christmas Day special.
