Eight-week-old baby born with half a heart has successful transplant

An eight-week-old baby born with only half a heart has had a lifesaving transplant just in time for Christmas.

Charlie Douthwaite’s parents have issued heartfelt thanks to an ‘amazing family’ who donated the heart Charlie needed to survive.

The baby, born on October 2 weighing 6lbs 5oz, is recovering well following the procedure at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

His parents Tracie Wright, 30, and Steven Douthwaite, 32, of Fenham, Newcastle, said: ‘We just wanted to let you all know that Charlie received his heart and has had his transplant.
