UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS)
Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako have accepted an invitation from Queen Elizabeth to pay a state visit to Britain in early 2020.
“His Majesty the Emperor and Empress of Japan accepted an invitation from Her Majesty the Queen to pay a state visit to the United Kingdom in the spring of 2020,” said Buckingham Palace.
The palace added that they will be staying at the Windsor Palace.
Britain’s exit from the European Union, slated for implementation on January 31, has worried some Japanese investors and major companies that former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher encouraged her to use the country as a springboard to Europe.
Queen Elizabeth hosted two former emperors of Japan, Emperor Akihito who visited a state in 1998 and Emperor Hirohito who visited a state in 1971.
During these visits, the former British prisoners of war organized protests demanding a full apology and more compensation for the suffering caused by the Second World War.
At the invitation of Emperor Hirohito, the Queen and her husband Prince Philip visited one country of Japan in 1975.
