Richard Hammond has defended his joke suggesting gay people eat ice cream almost a year after his comments during an episode of The Grand Tour.

The TV presenter came under fire after saying that the reason why he doesn’t eat ice cream is ‘something to do with being straight’.

He was responding to co-host Jeremy Clarkson pointing out that ‘you couldn’t enjoy a chocolat Magnum ice cream’ in a Rolls Royce because of the swanky interior.

Clarkson said: ‘Are you saying everyone who likes ice cream… you’re saying all children are homosexual?’
