Several injured after passenger train hits freight train in Germany

Around 50 people have been injured after a passenger train hit a freight train in Germany, local police and fire said.

Local media reported on Tuesday the accident happened near the train station in the town of Meerbusch, near Dusseldorf.

Rail operator Deutsche Bahn said a passenger train of the regional provider National Express ran into a freight train from DB Cargo on the same track at about 6.30pm.

The Meerbusch fire department said up to 150 passengers were on the train.
