Thousands forced to flee homes as wildfires rip through California

Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes as several wildfires rage on in California. 

The latest blaze to break out in the northern edge of Los Angeles is sweeping across 200 acres.

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby said the fire started around 9.30am on Tuesday.

Countless homes and buildings have been destroyed in the wildfires, including psychiatric ward Vista del Mar Hospital in southern California. The 82-bed was fully evacuated before it was gripped by flames.
